Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching

“Catholic social teaching is fundamental to tackling world issues”

(Pope Francis).

At Our Lady of Peace, we embed Catholic Social Teaching in to all that we do. Each half term we focus on a principle, teach the children about what this means and how they can act upon it. We make close links to the virtues so that children learn the behaviours and attitudes that create positive impact in their own and others lives.

The principles of Catholic Social Teaching are also fully embedded across the new Religious Education Directory, building links between our faith and beliefs and the way that should live our lives. These are explored through the 'Celebrate' and 'Live' knowledge lenses within the curriculum.

OLOP Love in Action
To celebrate children's work on Catholic Social Teaching, we celebrate pupils who have shown good effort in putting the principles into action. Each week pupils are awarded with an OLOP Love in Action certificate. We also add the child's name to a leaf which is added to our Love in Action tree in the front entrance of the school. This is an idea born from the parable of the mustard seed and emphasises that collectively all of our small actions can lead to big things.
Our work on 'Preferential Option for the Poor'

We support a number of charities, recognising that there are people in the local and global community who need our support.

We have supported charities such as: CAFOD, Mary's Meals, Slough Food Bank, Macmillan, The British Legion and Thames Valley Hospice.
