The four main National Curriculum Attainment Targets in Science are Scientific Enquiry, Life and Living Processes, Materials and Physical Processes. Scientific Enquiry is integrated into each of the other Attainment Targets.
The three attainment targets are sub-divided into areas of study which are taught in blocks of approximately six weeks duration. Each area of study is planned so that children will recap them at least twice in each key stage, thereby reinforcing their understanding of scientific ideas.
Many of the units provide opportunities for links with other areas of the curriculum, (such as developing mathematical skills through working with numerical data relating to real situations).
